Mario Drops New Visual/Song, Announces Partnership with Equitas

Published on PR Web.

Chart-Topping, multi-platinum selling, singer, songwriter, and actor, Mario premiered his stunning new introspective video for the emotionally-charged single, “Care For You” today with BET Soul and BET Her for broadcast, and Entertainment Tonight digitally.

“Care For You” is a different kind of song, one that highlights Mario’s relationship with love as a man in this day and age. The touching video, directed by Khufu Najee, sees Mario going in a different direction, instead of professing his love for a woman, he’s speaking on the love he learned to have for himself, playing a therapist who’s reflecting on important periods throughout his childhood.

Mario’s ability to connect with his fans has come from the depth and authenticity he has always shown in his music throughout his career. It’s that connection with fans that inspired Mario to create this visual and send a message of self-love, healing, and encouragement for people to reach out and ask for help. On this important topic, Mario has teamed up with The Equitas Project to continue to spread awareness, particularly within minority communities where people don’t always have easy access to the care and support that they need to thrive and enjoy good mental health.

Mario adds, “Creativity is connectivity and expression is the gift that is sometimes drowned out by life’s obstacles, which is why this message and the timing of this partnership is so important.”

“Care For You” is the second single from Mario’s fifth studio album, “Dancing Shadows,” which debuted at #1 on the iTunes R&B/Soul chart. Mario is currently on the mega-popular “Millennium Tour” alongside B2K, and is gearing up for the season premiere of the hit TV series, “Empire” in his recurring guest role as the rising R&B star, DeVon.

About Mario:
GRAMMY Award-nominated, multiplatinum-selling singer, songwriter, producer, and actor, Mario began projecting his innate artistry after being discovered by his first manager at the age of 11. Three years later, the Baltimore native signed a recording contract with music legend Clive Davis. Mario’s eponymous debut studio album rolled out in 2002 featuring his first top five R&B/pop hit “Just a Friend 2002,” a revamped cover of Biz Markie’s 1989 top 10 pop single. Two years later, Mario revisited the upper echelons of the Billboard charts with his sophomore set Turning Point. The platinum album spun off the melodic double-platinum Hot 100 chart-topper “Let Me Love You” (nine consecutive weeks), and placed Mario on Billboard Magazine’s coveted “Artist of the Decade” list.

Rounding out Mario’s album catalog are 2007’s Go, featuring the gold-certified single “Crying Out for Me,” and 2009’s D.N.A. That set’s lead single “Break Up,” with guests Sean Garrett and Gucci Mane, also went gold and peaked at No. 2 on Billboard’s Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart/No. 14 on the Billboard Hot 100. Now, Mario is back to reclaim his role as a standard-bearer of progressive R&B/Pop with the release of his eagerly-awaited fifth studio album, Dancing Shadows. The album debuted at #1 on the iTunes R&B/Soul chart, landed him a recurring role in the hit tv series, Empire, and a lead role in the buzzed about Live TV musical event, RENT on FOX.

About The Equitas Project:
The Equitas Project, an initiative of the David and Laura Merage Foundation, envisions an America rededicated to liberty and justice for all, where there is a commonly held expectation that jails and prisons should not continue to serve as the nation’s warehouses for people with unmet mental health needs. Equitas is a nonpartisan, nonprofit organization, which promotes mental health awareness and champions laws, policies, and practices that prioritize improved population health outcomes, sensible use of resources, and the decriminalization of mental illness. We are committed to disentangling mental health and criminal justice. Visit us at Equitasproject.org or on Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram @EquitasProject.
