Take Action: Urge Your Lawmakers to Adopt Law Enforcement Course Corrections
The nation’s first response to mental health needs is too often a public safety response.
Relying on police, sheriffs, and the criminal justice system to respond to the chronic and acute mental health needs of the population is neither appropriate nor healthy, nor sound fiscal policy. This reliance upon public safety and justice system intervention for unaddressed health needs is a wasteful misapplication of resources, and yields extremely poor health and public safety outcomes at tremendous cost to individuals, communities, and the economy at large.
It's time for communities to step up and support law enforcement's leaders, officers, deputies, and prosecutors.
Send a message to your legislative officials to urge them to support these recommended course corrections.
